🔍 KEY POINTS: Citizens of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) are now exempt from the standard 12-month waiting period before reapplying for a Pre-Removal Risk Assessment (PRRA), if they fall under the following category: ✅ They previously received a decision rejecting refugee protection or related applications from one of the following bodies: IRB – Immigration and Refugee Board: rejected a refugee claim Federal Court of Canada: dismissed an application for judicial review of a negative refugee decision PRRA – Pre-Removal Risk Assessment: previously denied a PRRA application 📅 The decision must have been issued between July 5, 2024, and July 4, 2025 (inclusive). ➡️ If so, the applicant can submit a new PRRA application immediately, without waiting the usual 12 months. 🛑 WHO IS NOT ELIGIBLE? DRC nationals whose IRB, Federal Court, or PRRA decisions are dated after July 4, 2025 are still subject to the standard 12-month waiting period before reapplying for PRRA. ❗ WHY THIS MATTERS: This exemption reflects Canada's concern over the current security and human rights situation in the DRC. It is a critical legal opportunity to: 🔹 Reassess eligibility for protection 🔹 Prevent removal to a country where torture, death, or cruel and inhuman treatment may occur 🔹 Delay or stop an impending deportation ✅ WHAT SHOULD YOU DO NOW?
