Canada Provides Temporary Support for Those Affected by the Crisis in Lebanon

Due to escalating tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, Lebanon is experiencing intense clashes and attacks. To ensure the safety of Canadian citizens and permanent residents in the region, the Government of Canada has implemented temporary support measures.

Immediate family members of Canadian citizens and permanent residents who have left Lebanon on or after September 29, 2024, are eligible to apply for an Open Work Permit, Study Permit, or to extend their residency status in Canada free of charge. This applies to spouses and children, regardless of their nationality.

Additionally, Lebanese nationals currently in Canada with valid temporary resident status may also apply for these permits without fees.

These measures aim to keep families together and provide Lebanese nationals in Canada with a safe place to study, work, and live.

The Government of Canada continues to advise against all travel to Lebanon at this time. Canadian citizens and permanent residents are encouraged to leave Lebanon by commercial means if possible to ensure their safety.
