Canada Extends Support for Ukrainians by One More Year
π IRCC Update β July 15, 2025
Canada has extended its temporary policy allowing Ukrainian nationals and their accompanying family members under the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET) program to continue applying for or renewing Open Work Permits and Study Permits until March 31, 2026.
β Eligibility Criteria:
- The applicant must have entered Canada on or before March 31, 2024 under the CUAET program;
- Must currently hold valid temporary resident status in Canada;
- Applications will be processed under standard IRCC processing fees.
π Important Notes:
- The previous policy covering backlogged applications submitted before July 15, 2023 remains in effect until all such cases are fully processed.
- Individuals who were issued a CUAET visa while outside Canada can still travel to Canada. However, they will now enter as regular temporary residents, and their authorized stay will be determined by CBSA at the port of entry.
- Applicants who have been issued a Letter of Introduction (LOI) with an open work permit will still receive the permit upon arrival in Canada, as long as the LOI remains valid.
