INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS CAN NOW WORK UP TO 24 HOURS PER WEEK 2025
On November 5, 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) updated its internal policy definition of “off-campus work.”
The new regulation officially increases the maximum number of hours international students can work off campus during regular academic sessions from 20 hours to 24 hours per week.
🔍 KEY CHANGES
This update reflects recent regulatory amendments clarifying the legal work limits for international students currently studying in Canada.
From now on, international students may:
âś… Work up to 24 hours per week during regular academic sessions.
âś… Continue to work full-time during scheduled breaks, such as winter or summer holidays, or when the institution is officially closed.
đź’ˇ WHAT THIS MEANS FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
The increased work-hour limit allows students to:
- Earn more legal income to help cover living expenses.
- Gain additional Canadian work experience, improving employability and post-graduation immigration prospects.
- Reduce financial pressure amid rising living costs in major cities.
However, IRCC emphasizes that:
📌 Students must maintain valid full-time enrollment status and ensure employment does not negatively affect academic performance.
