NEW WORK PERMIT FOR IEC PARTICIPANTS CURRENTLY IN CANADA 2025

πŸ“… IRCC Update – June 11, 2025

If you’re in Canada with a valid work permit under the International Experience Canada (IEC) program and have submitted an application for a second IEC participation, here’s what you need to know:

πŸ”Ή From now until December 1, 2025, you can request a new work permit from within Canada via the IRCC Web Form if:

  • You still hold a valid IEC work permit

  • You have received a Letter of Introduction (LOI) for your next IEC application

πŸ“Œ Why this change?
As of December 23, 2024, CBSA no longer allows flagpoling (leaving Canada briefly to the US or Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon to activate a new permit). This means you can no longer leave Canada to activate your LOI as before.

🎯 Current solution:
Submit a work permit request through the IRCC Web Formβ€”no need to leave Canada.

🧠 Strategic notes:

  • Only applies if you’re currently in Canada with a valid IEC permit

  • Does not apply if your current permit has already expired

  • Submit the request properly and at the right time to avoid refusal
