NEW WORK PERMIT FOR IEC PARTICIPANTS CURRENTLY IN CANADA 2025
π IRCC Update β June 11, 2025
If you’re in Canada with a valid work permit under the International Experience Canada (IEC) program and have submitted an application for a second IEC participation, hereβs what you need to know:
πΉ From now until December 1, 2025, you can request a new work permit from within Canada via the IRCC Web Form if:
- You still hold a valid IEC work permit
- You have received a Letter of Introduction (LOI) for your next IEC application
π Why this change?
As of December 23, 2024, CBSA no longer allows flagpoling (leaving Canada briefly to the US or Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon to activate a new permit). This means you can no longer leave Canada to activate your LOI as before.
π― Current solution:
Submit a work permit request through the IRCC Web Formβno need to leave Canada.
π§ Strategic notes:
- Only applies if you’re currently in Canada with a valid IEC permit
- Does not apply if your current permit has already expired
- Submit the request properly and at the right time to avoid refusal
