TRP APPLICATION FEES MUST BE PAID BEFORE ASSESSMENT BEGINS

📅 June 11, 2025 – Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has updated its processing guidelines for Temporary Resident Permit (TRP) applications.

🔹 What’s new?
The TRP fee must now be paid upfront before your application will be assessed.
→ Regardless of the case, IRCC will not review any TRP application unless the required fee has been received.

TRP fee exemptions apply only to a very specific group
→ Specifically, to individuals identified under section R298(2)(a), when applying for a work permit or study permit.

👉 What this means:
Not everyone applying for a work or study permit alongside a TRP is exempt from paying the TRP fee.
If you are not part of the designated group, you must pay the full TRP fee.

📌 What is a TRP?
A Temporary Resident Permit is a special type of authorization for individuals who are normally inadmissible to Canada (due to medical issues, criminality, or other grounds), but who may still be allowed entry for humanitarian reasons, national interest, or other exceptional circumstances.

🧠 Key reminder:
Paying the correct fee at the correct time is essential. Failure to do so can result in immediate refusal of your application at intake.

Do not assume you’re exempt from the TRP fee.
Have a qualified lawyer or immigration representative assess your case before applying.
