Open Work Permit Renewal 2025
Your spouse or common-law partner may be eligible to extend their current open work permit if you meet all of the following requirements:
✅ You have a valid study permit.
✅ You are in Canada or will be physically present in Canada during your studies.
✅ You are a full-time student enrolled in a program that qualifies for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI).
✅ You are not in the final term of your study program.
⚠️ Note: Your spouse or common-law partner cannot extend their open work permit if the work permit’s expiration date exceeds the expiration date of your study permit.
📋 Required Documents
Your spouse or common-law partner must prepare the following documents to prove that you are enrolled in a program leading to a degree:
📌 Proof that you are a full-time student, which includes:
- An enrollment letter from your Designated Learning Institution (DLI).
- Transcripts from your current program of study.
- A copy of your study permit.
If your work permit is about to expire or needs to be extended or modified, you must apply to extend or modify its conditions.
👉 You should apply to renew your work permit at least 30 days before your current permit expires.
