Ontario Expected to See a 50% Drop in International Students!
Key Points of the New Policy:
– Nearly all international students (96%) will study at public colleges and universities.
– Private career colleges will not be allowed to recruit international students.
– The remaining 4% of international students will be allocated to language schools, private universities, and a few other select educational institutions.
– Cap on International Student Numbers:
+ The number of international students enrolled in 2023 will be the maximum. Schools will not be allowed to exceed this cap in future years.
+ The proportion of international students cannot exceed 55% of the 2023 domestic first-year student intake (with exceptions for “high-demand” programs).
– Priority for “High-Demand” Programs: The government will prioritize visas for international students studying in high-demand fields such as healthcare, STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math), tourism and hospitality, and childcare.
– Accommodation Requirements for International Students:
Colleges and universities must guarantee housing options for international students.
