Newfoundland and Labrador Restores 1,000 Economic Immigration Slots

After active advocacy efforts, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador has agreed with the Government of Canada to restore 1,000 economic immigration slots for 2025. The province’s total economic immigration allocation for this year is now 2,525.

Agreement Details:

  • Increase of 1,000 slots for the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), bringing the total to 2,050.
  • Maintaining 475 slots for the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP).
  • Welcoming 290 humanitarian migrants over the next two years, with relocation costs covered by the federal government.

Temporary Suspension of New Applications:

  • The province is temporarily pausing new economic immigration applications until mid-February to assess and develop better recruitment support tools. The 25-day processing standard for PNP applications is also temporarily suspended.
  • Urgent cases, such as healthcare workers, will continue to be processed.

Opportunities for Humanitarian Migrants:

  • Employers can still hire humanitarian migrants to fill labor shortages.
  • Over 100 skilled individuals from healthcare, education, construction, business, retail, and food services have already expressed interest in moving to Newfoundland and Labrador.

Support from the Provincial Government:

  • The government remains committed to helping individuals and businesses navigate immigration programs.
