IRCC launches application processing time prediction tool
To strengthen Canada’s immigration system, IRCC is improving its online processing time tool to help new clients predict how long it will take to process a complete application.
Predicted processing times are now available for the following types of applications:
– Canadian Experience Class (Express Entry)
– Provincial Nominees Program (Express Entry and non-Express Entry)
– Federal Skilled Workers (Express Entry)
– Quebec Skilled Workers
– Citizenship grants
– Citizenship certificate (proof of citizenship)
– Spouse or common-law partner living inside Canada
– Spouse, common-law or conjugal partner living outside Canada
– Parents or grandparents
For other types of applications
For types of applications not listed above, IRCC will still use historical processing times to predict the processing time for your application. Specifically:
– For permanent residence applications: IRCC will look at the processing time for 80% of applications processed in the past 6 months to predict the processing time for your application.
– For temporary residence applications: IRCC will look at the processing time for 80% of applications processed in the past 8 or 16 weeks (depending on the type of application) to predict the processing time for your application.
For those who have already applied
If you have already submitted an immigration application and are waiting for the results, the new estimated time may be shorter than the time you have been waiting.
Due to many factors, the predicted number may change from time to time of the year.
However, you do not need to worry because your application will still be prioritized for processing in the order of submission. In most cases, you will receive results sooner than expected.
There is no need to reapply, as this will put your application at the back of the queue and will take longer to process.
