International Students’ PGWP Opportunities Are Becoming Increasingly Difficult!

Bad news! The new policy tightening the conditions for the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) has just been updated! According to the regulation taking effect from May 15, 2024, instead of the previously announced date of September 1, 2024, students CANNOT apply for PGWP if they start studying at a Public-Private educational institution on or after May 15. This means that the opportunity to work and stay in Canada after graduation will be significantly affected.

The number of schools affected has not been officially announced. However, please check the list of designated institutions immediately at this link to see if your school is on the list: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/study-canada/study-permit/prepare/designated-learning-institutions-list.html

If you are planning to study in Canada, you should consider choosing other schools to ensure you are eligible for PGWP and build a long-term career in this country.

Very important notes!

– Students who started studying at a public-private institution before May 15, 2024, will still be eligible for PGWP as long as they meet other requirements.

– Public-private university-level programs are still eligible for PGWP.
