Francophone Mobility Work Permit: Application Guide

Do you speak French, have a job offer, and your work permit is expiring in 6-12 months? This could be the perfect option for you!

Who can apply?

If you are applying on or after June 15, 2023, you need to meet the following requirements:

✅ Meet the general eligibility requirements for a work permit.

✅ Live and work in one of the 9 provinces or 3 territories in Canada outside of Quebec.

✅ Prove your intermediate French-speaking and listening skills.

• This corresponds to level 5 or higher on the Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens (NCLC) scale.

✅ Have a job offer classified under any category of the National Occupational Classification (NOC) system based on Training, Education, Experience, and Responsibilities (TEER), except jobs in primary agriculture under TEER 4 or 5.

Bringing your family with you

✅ Your spouse/common-law partner or dependent children may apply for an open work permit. Check if they meet the eligibility requirements for a work permit.

✅ Your dependent children can also attend school or university while you are working in Canada.

Steps your Canadian employer must take before you apply

Before you submit your work permit application, your employer must:

1️⃣ Submit a job offer (offer of employment) to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) through the Employer Portal using LMIA exemption code C16 for the Francophone Mobility program.

2️⃣ Pay the $230 CAD employer compliance fee.

3️⃣ Provide you with an offer of employment number: This is a 7-digit number you need for your work permit application.
