Canadian Government Cuts Immigration Quota for P.E.I.
Ottawa has significantly reduced the number of people Prince Edward Island (P.E.I.) can nominate for permanent residency in 2025. This decision has left businesses and foreign workers on the Island concerned about their future.
Quota Reduced by Half Compared to Last Year
The federal government has announced that P.E.I. will only be allowed to nominate 1,025 people through the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) and the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) this year.
- 2024: P.E.I. voluntarily reduced its nominations to 1,590 out of a total quota of 2,050.
- 2025: The number has been drastically cut to just 1,025, nearly a 50% reduction.
Challenges for Businesses and Foreign Workers
This decision has raised concerns among Island businesses about their ability to fill vacant positions due to a lack of workers, while foreign workers feel uncertain about their future.
