Canada commitment to welcome people affected by the conflict in Sudan 2025
📅 February 20, 2025 – The Canadian government has announced an extended commitment to support those affected by the conflict in Sudan.
🔍 KEY POINTS TO KNOW:
✅ Resettlement for More Sudanese Refugees:
- Canada will welcome an additional 7,000 people affected by the conflict over the next two years.
- Up to 4,000 government-assisted refugees from Sudan will be resettled by the end of 2026.
- An additional 700 refugees will be supported through the Private Sponsorship program.
- Canada will waive the requirement for refugee status determination documents for cases sponsored by groups of five or community sponsors.
✅ Expanding the Family-Based Permanent Residency Pathway:
- The number of applications accepted for processing will increase from 3,250 to over 5,000.
- Approximately 10,000 people are expected to immigrate through this pathway.
- No longer requires the sponsor to reside outside of Quebec.
- New applications will be accepted starting from February 25, 2025.
